I remember when Bishop Deo Iniguez of Caloocan Diocese visited me here in Sydney. I was his tourist guide in this photo we were strolling in the Queen Victoria Building and we just asked a fellow tourist for a snap shot.
I listened to Bishop Deo's Advice and his experiences as Bishop of Caloocan, his inspiration for the Filipinos is his witnessing of a real servant fulfilling the priest's prophetic function. Somehow along the way many Catholics had neglected this important fucntion of a priest.
We are all priests by virtue of our Baptismal calling at the ritual of the Sacrament of Baptism where the celebrant anoints the infant " I anoint you with the Chrism of Salvation as Christ was anointed priest, prophet, and king."
A prophet is someone who speaks for or on behalf of God, it means therefore that all baptised Christians must act and be a real witness of faith for others by pointing and teaching them about God, about waht is right, about what is wrong. Sad to say with the huge percentage of Catholic Population in the Philippines only few are real prophets, gone the days of our former Cardinal Sin in denouncing with integrity the evil deeds of government leaders. May we have another Church leader and prophet like him.
